The Beginning

I’ve decided to start a blog to document the photoshoots I do as well as give tips and tricks that I have learned and found helpful. To start off, here is the story of how my photography business came to be.

For as long as I can remember my dad has loved to take pictures. He has always had a nice camera, always Nikon and we have folders and folders of pictures of my sisters and I growing up. To me a Nikon camera was something that was cool, expensive, and something that I thought I would never own. (Looking back I guess I didn’t realize the price of one). As I became a teenagers I would take pictures with my dad’s camera or my own little Nikon Coolpix. Although I can't say that my pictures were always great, I did enjoy it.

During my junior year I went to a high school dance where theme was superheros. My dad took my groups pictures. We went to an LDS church building and used the wall like a green screen. In the post production stage we dubbed in all kinds of backgrounds to make it look like we were superheroes. This was the first time that I had really used photoshop and I LOVED it. Although my dad originally intended on editing all the images, I was the one that ended up doing most of the work.

This is one that my dad ended up editing

My senior year of high school I took a photography class. It was at this point that I determined how much I really loved to take pictures. In April of my senior year I went down to St. George for a family vacation. My dad let me use his Nikon camera and I had the opportunity to take my little cousin’s pictures. I learned to edit them in my photography class and let’s just say I was proud of my work. That Thanksgiving I bought myself my very own Nikon D3200.

From that point until now I have taken many a picture. And as I was taking pictures of my family and a few close friends I began to think that one day I’d like to own my own photography business. About 8 months ago I realized that there was no reason to wait until I was older to go after my dreams. I could do it now!

And that’s the story of how Snapshots by Maranda really came to be. I hope that all of you will come with my on my journey as a I learn and grow in this business.
